The STEM Experiment is comprised of 4 main components:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics

In the NO QUIT ZONE we are on a mission to find "future" Scientist, Technologist, Engineers and Mathematicians through the STEM Experiment. Our goal is to bring our future STEM leaders from the background into the forefront using fun interactive team projects that will allow the students to build or enhance critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. The students will gain a better understanding of the importance of Math and Science which are the major subject areas in the STEM related careers

President Obama stated "Strengthening STEM education is vital to preparing our students to compete in the 21 century economy." When coming into office he set a goal of moving our nation from the middle of the pact to the top in Math and Science Education.

The STEM Experiment is broken into two areas STEM Leadership & STEM Design. The experiment is built around teams in which students are given projects to complete using real world life application. The students will build their leadership skills as they will work in teams where trust, communication(written and verbal), team building, problem solving and critical thinking skills will be needed to complete each STEM project successfully.

Each team will be assigned a Team Lead with a background in STEM related fields. Team leads will be available as a resource as the teams complete each project.  Each Team Lead is trained on curriculum/experiment delivery.

STEM LEADERSHIP
  • Students will be introduced to fun and exciting ways to identify/test their Leadership and STEM skill sets
  • Assessments of each student will be captured and used as students move into the STEM Design
    portion of the STEM Experiment

STEM DESIGN

Students will be introduced to basic STEM concepts.Students will enjoy hands on interactive projects as they learn how Innovations in Technology (using math & science) helps us:

  • communicate across the world through satellites, the Internet, and cell phones
  • every day to work better and even pay our bills on-line
  • advance medicine and science to improve our health
build products to protect our nation

Students will be introduced to fun and exciting exercises for designing and problem solving STEM
related projects. Based on output from STEM Leadership the Team Lead will assign roles and responsibilities to each team member.

Key Points:

As the students design STEM related projects they will also enhance their leadership skill sets.

Team(s) shall:

  • Define approach for project completion within allotted time(Problem Solving)
  • Create Project Schedule based on time allocated (Planning and Organization)
  • Define requirements and techniques for designing project (Critical Thinking, Gathering, Analyzing and Managing Information )
  • Design project (STEM Leads available for direction only if students ask)
  • Work Ethic and Problem Solving
  • Critical Thinking, Decision Making, Team Work, Adaptability
  • Project Presentation (Verbal and Written Communication)
